XHTML is one of the higher standards in coding for website's basic lanunages called HTML (stands for Hyper Text Markup Lanuages - meaning the computer launages uses tags around text and content to "mark it up" and has links or also called hyper text links back in the day), where XHTML has the "X" infront of it meaning " Extensible", to explain that in simple non-computer terms, that means its the next version/generation from the orginal HTML lanuage.CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets and it's just an external file (usually) that lists styles in a cascading format for the items in the website code - thus used to style the layout, color, font, etc... Although the orginal HTML lanuage (see above for definition) can be used CSS is prefered in modern designs since it allows for the main code of the site to be somewhat seperated from the styling and thus additionally making it easier to update.
